– 1 pound hot (or sweet) Italian sausage links, cut into 1 1/2 inch lengths
– 1 large onion, minced
– 3 cloves garlic, smashed
– 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
– 1 teaspoon dried basil (or Italian Seasoning, orminced fresh basil)
– 1/2 cup red wine (a cheap merlot or blend of wines is good)
– 1/2 cup water
– 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
